My Approach to coaching

Awakening the whole self

Navigate personal change and organizational change

Change is hard

Whenever we set out to make a significant change in our lives, whether we're learning something new or breaking an old habit, we often hit a place of discomfort or inner resistance. And most of us are, understandably, not very good at sitting with discomfort. But usually that’s what it takes. It helps to have a safe space and someone who will sit with us, who can be present for whatever shows up; who can witness all our steps forward, backward, and detours to the side; and who can remind us that we have everything we need to make this journey.

I can walk this walk with you as your witness and your guide. I know the territory.

Create new neural pathways with brain-based coaching

Bring the brain

As a coach, I draw on a wealth of scientific research on how to create new neural pathways, how to build positive habits, and how to maintain some consistency over time through taking small steps and setting realistic goals. It takes repetition, reflection, reinforcement, and accountability to make lasting change.

But, I’m not just interested in the brain. I’m also interested in the body, the heart, and the soul. I invite all these aspects of self (including the inner protesters) to come with us.

But not just the brain

Somatic strategies can help with integration

Bring the body too

The body is a vessel for transformation. The body is where we process change. It’s where we release old stories, and where new stories can settle in and take hold. When we stop and tune in to the body, we gain access to our deep ways of knowing. Only by partnering with the body can we find a new center. Habits and habitual ways of thinking are forged, practiced, and lived in the body.
Lead with integrity, presence, and heart

And the heart

The heart is an excellent navigator. We check in with the brain a hundred times a day, but how often do we check in with the heart? When we do, we get a kind of clarity that can cut through the noise. When we give the heart a voice, it helps us see the bigger picture and connects us with our humanity. It connects us with that part of ourselves that wants to create better systems for ourselves and for everyone else. The heart is where true leadership lives.
Lead with purpose and vision

And don't forget the soul

The soul helps us find our sense of purpose. The soul is a natural seeker of change and evolution. It doesn’t care so much about your goal–it cares about how your journey to reach your goal will change you and those around you. It doesn’t care so much about security and safety–that’s the brain’s job. The soul wants experience, adventure, and growth. When we acknowledge the soul, we’re reminded that we are here to evolve, to do difficult things that push us forward, toward the beauty of our unfolding.

Focus on what matters most

You have everything you need

When we’re willing to sit in the fire of discomfort and observe the parts of ourselves that are rising up in protest, we gain access to everything we need for the journey. It’s in that fire where our wisdom, resilience, creativity, and strength shows up. Change is not just a cognitive exercise–it asks for the awakening of the whole self.

"The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are."
